“Costain approached BDB Special Projects to rectify several defects on the Heysham to M6 Link Road scheme. The defects were of a varied nature and included manhole repairs, kerb repairs and bridge bearing remedial works. With support from BDB management team and our traffic management contractor, Costain were able to develop a comprehensive programme of works to complete the remedial works; the majority of which were only accessible from the link road itself which opened to live traffic in October 2016. Moreover, BDB produced a thorough RAMS document that detailed task specific methodology as well as how any associated risks would be controlled and mitigated. BDB provided competent operatives to complete the works; all of whom held up to date competency cards required to work on site. With BDB providing all the plant and materials to complete the works along with supervision and labour, they were able to work with minimal input from ourselves. The team were able to react swiftly to changes to the scope of works and programme owing to adverse weather conditions. The remedial works were completed to a high standard, with both Costain and our client pleased with the corrective action”.

Entry in the Observation Report reads ‘Mabey commenting on how professional the finished work is to the concrete pads, excellently finished levels and smooth.
